AfroPortals: Rosesharon Oates Exhibition

  • Liberation Park 7101 Foothill Boulevard Oakland, CA, 94605 United States (map)

Meet the first artist whose work will be gracing our Cosmos Portal on for the kickoff of the AfroPortals Project Space & Archive Pop-up Summer Exhibition.

Born in New Orleans and residing in Oakland, Rosesharon Oates considers her art practice to be synonymous with her work as a spiritual activist, culture worker, and community healer. As an initiate and teacher of metaphysics, her work is created in praise of the mystery & power of the divine Feminine, often depicting its subjects in ceremony or created as a form of prayer itself.  She has found her art practice to be central in navigating her own grief, and in tending to the grief of others. Viewing creativity as a liberation practice, she utilizes its power to unite, to bring us back to ourselves, to conjure beauty, and ignite joy.

Her exhibition, “the Beauty is You” will be showing in the Cosmos Portal at Liberation Park in Oakland on Saturday, May 3rd from 2-5pm.
